Static ID cards vs live digital identity
Why a card that looks valid is not the same as a credential that is valid right now.

A card can look valid after it stops being valid
A physical card has no built-in knowledge of whether the holder still works for the organisation, whether an approval has been withdrawn or whether a relevant check has expired.
Live identity connects presentation to current state
A digital credential can be linked to the current workforce record. When the organisation changes the underlying status, the credential can change with it.
Verification is different from recognition
Seeing a familiar logo or photograph is recognition. Verification is the act of checking the credential against the authoritative record and establishing whether it is current.
Auditability changes the operational value
When validation events are recorded, organisations gain evidence of when a credential was checked and what the system state was at that time.
